Several Michigan Technological University Alumni are honored by the Society of Women Engineers at this past year’s WE24 Conference. In October Michigan Tech supported the travel of 19 students going to the Society of Women Engineers WE24 conference in Chicago.
During the WE24 conference, the students were able to attend the conference’s awards ceremony which honored four alumnae of the university. Julie Huffman from the class of 1987 received the Rasnik Challenger Medal Award for her contributions to space programs. Skyler Brawley, a senior in computer engineering earned the Outstanding Collegiate Member Award. Amanda Smiles, who graduated in 2018, was awarded the Trailblazer Award for her technical performance and leadership in Materials Engineering. A final Husky honor by the Society of Women Engineers was Gretchen Hein of the class of 1996. She earned the Distinguished Educator Award for her years of service to Michigan Technological University, the Society of Women Engineers, and her commitment to creating inclusive educational environments.
While at the conference the MTU students also had opportunities to interview for internship and employment positions.
