Paying for a medical degree costs time and money. It can take years for doctors to train in a specific field. And many months to balance working while pursuing a nursing degree. The Portage Health Auxiliary supports young people taking up the Hippocratic Oath and will offer scholarships to residents from Baraga Houghton Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties pursing a healthcare career. The auxiliary will require applicants to carry a 3.0 or higher grade point average, have been enrolled at a higher education institution for at least one year, and provide transcripts and a letter briefly outlining the applicant’s desire to enter the healthcare field. Applications for the Portage Health Auxiliary healthcare education scholarship are due no later than April 30th. Applications should be mailed to the Portage Health Auxiliary. Scholarship information can be found online.
