Michigan Technological University professor seeks willing participants for a study of those who use nicotine products. Professor William Cooke, with the MTU Department of Kinesiology and Integrative Physiology, seeks men and women who smoke, vape, chew or use a nicotine patch to participate in a research study. The study will seek to determine how the human body responds to simulated blood loss and how these responses might differ for those who use nicotine. Participants in the study will earn 100 compensation for their involvement. Those interested in participating in the study can find more information online. There is monetary compensation ($100) for participation and the experiment will require about one hour of your time.
You are eligible to participate if you:
- Have not been diagnosed with diabetes.
- Do not have a history of blood clots or peripheral vascular disease.
- Have not been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism.
- Are not pregnant or trying to become pregnant.
- Are not taking any prescription drugs.
- Have not been diagnosed with a current or chronic respiratory illness.
- Do not have blood pressure above 140/90 mmHg.
- Do not have a history of becoming lightheaded or dizzy upon standing.
