An Alabama man has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering in connection to a teen’s suicide from sextortion.
On Wednesday the acting attorney of the western district of Michigan Andrew Birge announced that Dinsimore Robinson, 29 years old of Huntsville Alabama pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering charges. He acted as a middleman to send money from minors who were contacted and extorted by two Nigerian men in 2022. The state alleges the group used online payment systems to collect sextortion proceeds, retaining 20 percent, before sending the rest of the money to Sampson and Samuel Ogoshi of Nigeria.
The group was responsible for the scheme that resulted in the 2022 suicide of 17-year-old Jordan DeMay.
Robinson will stand for sentencing in April before US District Court Judge Robert Jonker.
The FBI and Department of Justice encourage families to speak with their children about online safety and privacy protection. Victims of sextortion are not responsible for the actions against them and are willing to ask for help. To report information about sextortion or if you believe you have been victimized please contact the FBI tips line.
