Blake Shelton and his wife Gwen Stefani recently wanted to watch a documentary on unsung country star Keith Whitley. Shelton was shocked to find out that one didn’t exist, so he decided to take it upon himself to make one happen. Shelton is now the co-producer on a forthcoming documentary on the life and music of Whitley, who died back in 1989 when he was only 34-years-old. While he died young, Whitley’s impact and influence on country music is still being felt, especially by Shelton. “I’m proud and honored we get to bring his incredible story to film,” Shelton says. His own Lucky Horseshoe Productions has teamed up with Anomaly Content & Entertainment to make the film, which will begin filming in January 2025. “Thanks to Blake, we finally have the chance to uncover the truth behind the legend that is Keith Whitley,” says Zach Heinzerling, who has signed on to direct the documentary.
