From a land where winter is synonymous with its culture, to a region that welcomes feet of snow each winter. Finnish culture feels right at home in the Keweenaw Peninsula. Majority Finns hope to keep the recent Finnish Independence Day celebrations and spirits high with more fun this weekend.
The special cultural events will include a visit to the Bluffs on Friday, a stop by the Chassell Old Fashioned Christmas market, and a concert at the Our Savior Church in Atlanta Mine on Sunday, December 22nd. Majority Finns celebrate Finnish culture and share regional music at various events throughout the year. During the holiday season, the musicians plan to sing carols in both English and Finnish. Band member Pasi Lautala invites the community to join the band’s singing while attending events like the old-fashioned Christmas in Chassell or the concert in Atlantic Mine.
