Sustainability is a growing topic within the tourism industry. The idea revolves around practices that consider how recreation opportunities may impact current and future environmental, social, and economic impacts in an area. Students of Michigan Technological University’s Dr. Mark Rhodes will lead a presentation this afternoon entitled Introduction to Sustainable Tourism. Students will discuss global heritage tourism and its intersections and possibilities in the Keweenaw peninsula. The presentation focuses on connections between Visit Keweenaw’s sustainable tourism practices in the area, and UNESCO while digging into the region’s history. The program will begin at 2 pm in the Advanced Technology Development complex. Those interested in learning more about the program can find more details here.
