High School
The Hancock High School volleyball team will face Clarkston Everest Collegiate in the Division Four state volleyball semifinals today. The match will be played at noon at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek. Hancock is the only public school to reach the D-4 final four, and brings a record of 25-6-2 into the match. The Mountaineers have not lost a match, with a record of 36-0-1. They have dropped just two sets this season. Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart and St. Joseph Our Lady of the Lake Catholic will play in the other semifinal this afternoon at 2:00.

College Volleyball
Both Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan University advanced to the semifinals of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball tournament with opening-round wins last night.
The fifth-seeded Huskies dropped the first set, but came back to dispatch fourth-seed Wayne State 3-1 (17-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-13). Meg Raabe logged 18 kills, Tess Hayes 35 assists and 11 digs, and Amelia Albers 18 digs.
The third-seeded Wildcats took the first two sets, gave up the third, then claimed the fourth in a 3-1 (25-16, 25-15, 25-20, 25-15) victory over sixth-seeded Parkside.
The semifinals will be staged Saturday in Big Rapids. Tech will take on top-seeded Ferris State, and NMU will face second seeded Grand Valley State.

The Red Wings entertain the Islanders tonight. Because of NFL football on 99.3 The Lift, coverage will start at 6:45 on KBear 102.3.

The Pistons visit the Hornets tonight.
MLB
To the surprise of nobody, Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal has been named the American League Cy Young Award winner. The vote was unanimous. Skubal led the league in wins, earned run average and strikeouts. The announcement was made yesterday, on his 28th birthday.
Chris Sale of the Braves claimed the National League Cy Young trophy.
The Tigers added some depth yesterday by signing utility player Jahmai Jones to a minor league contract, with an invitation to spring training. Jones has played in the Angels, Orioles, Brewers and Yankees organizations. His older brother and his father both played football for the Lions.
NFL
The Browns welcome the Steelers in tonight’s NFL contest on 99.3 The Lift.
